Hibachi grill table | Teppanyaki Brussels sprouts with honey and ginger
Even if you live in a tropical climate like Miami, certain days of winter make us crave comfort food. Rich food doesn't necessarily mean heavy, so we decided to try a fun Brussels sprouts recipe that balances comfort, health and flavor.
Steam the chopped Brussels sprouts for 5 minutes until they are forked and cooked. While they are steaming, you can dice garlic and ginger. Steam the Brussels sprouts, place them in a bowl and prepare all the ingredients.
We think some fresh, local grape tomatoes can add color and flavor to a dish, but feel free to omit them or add a special flavor to the dish. Continue preheating the Cookeryaki teppanyaki grill table to level 5, then raise the temperature to 7 or 8 after preheating. If you use a wok or wok, this is about medium high.
Start with a swirl of oil, which should heat up quickly as the stove has been open for a few minutes. Immediately dice ginger and garlic. We used 1 tablespoon of garlic and 1.5 tablespoons of ginger, but can adjust to your personal taste.
It's time to add Brussels sprouts! You'll be busy stirring the mixture of ginger, garlic and Brussels sprouts for a minute or so, which is a good thing because the smell is so tempting that you'll want to eat straight before you're ready.
After stirring for about a minute and resisting the temptation to start eating, you can add soy sauce and sherry. We use about a tablespoon each, but you can adjust again to taste. Stir both liquids until Brussels sprouts are lightly wrapped. A dash of honey is then added to balance the ginger and give the dish a mild sweetness.
Continue stirring until the Brussels sprouts start to caramelize slightly without burning. After about a minute, you can turn off the heat and add whatever other ingredients you want to use or as is. As I mentioned earlier, we decided to add locally fresh grape tomatoes, but you can squeeze lemon or lime juice on top, or add walnuts, dried cranberries or cooked bacon.
For 3-4 people
1 pound Brussels sprouts, wash and trim
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 tablespoon fresh garlic, diced
1.5 TBSP fresh ginger, diced
1 tablespoon soy sauce, more or less to taste
1 tablespoon sherry, more or less to taste
1 tablespoon honey, more or less taste
